Great interest in FIS Cup final in Sweden

The final events of this season's FIS Cup were held this weekend in Falun (SWE). The competition in the host city of the World Championships 2015 attracted big crowds of spectators.

The FIS Cup is, after the World and the Continental Cup, the third-highest competition series in Ski Jumping. For many young athletes, these events are the first step into competing internationally. And jumpers also need to score FIS Cup points in order to compete on the next-highest level, in the Continental Cup.

This weekend in Falun especially the German athletes had reasons to celebrate. On Saturday, Julian Hahn won ahead of his teammates Dominik Maylaender, Philipp Raimund, Johannes Schubert and Marinus Kraus. In the ladies competition, Germany swept the podium with Luisa Goerlich, Agnes Reisch, and Pauline Hessler. The two final competitions on Sunday could not take place due to the wind conditions.

The men' overall title went to Austria's Elias Tollinger (757 points), Dominik Maylaender (594 points) and Tollinger's teammate Markus Rupitsch (580 points) follow in second and third.

The overall winner of the ladies' FIS Cup 2017/18 is Nika Kriznar. The Slovene won with 580 points, ahead of Luisa Goerlich (388 points) and Romania's Daniela Haralambie (382 points).

The organizers were especially happy about the huge interest of the spectators over the weekend. "It has not always been easy to get big crowds to jumping competitions in Sweden so it is great to see so many people watching Ski Jumping here in Falun. This is real advertising for Ski Jumping", said Johanna Nybelius, assistant chief of competitions in Falun.
