JWSC: Marius Lindvik takes the gold

Marius Lindvik of Norway lived up to the high expectations and claimed the gold medal at the Junior World Championships in Kandersteg (SUI) on Thursday evening.

The 19-year-old, who attracted some attention with his eighth place in the World Cup in Zakopane (POL) recently, laid the foundation for this big success already in the first round with the longest jump of the day of 108.5 m. In the final he also had the best jump with 101 m and so he took the win with 291.4 points.

The second place on the HS 106 hill went to Constantin Schmid of Germany. The 18-year old, who has also achieved a Top 10 result in this World Cup season with an eighth place in Titisee-Neustadt, jumped on 105 m and 99.5  and scored a total of 282.1 points. For Constantin Schmid, who finished third last year in Park City (USA), this is already the second JWSC medal of his career.

Already clearly behind the two best athletes of this competition, the bronze medal in Kandersteg went to Clemens Leitner of Austria, who scored 267.1 points with his jumps of 100 m and 96.5 m.

Poland's Tomasz Pilch, who was third, close ahead of Clemens Leitner, after the first round with 100.5 m, jumped on 93 m in the final and missed a medal at the Championships by only 0.2 points.

Jan Hoerl was the second-best of the Austrians in fifth, he was followed by Jonathan Learyod of France and Finland's Andreas Alamommo, both also with World Cup experience already, in sixth and seventh.

Zak Mogel came in eighth and was the best of the Slovenian jumpers, his famous teammate Domen Prevc finished tenth, right behind Germany's Philipp Raimund, who moved up from 22nd to ninth in the final round.
