Kamil Stoch close ahead of Johansson and Stjernen
Aug 31, 2018·Ski JumpingKamil Stoch won the final qualification of the RAW AIR 2018 on Friday evening in Vikersund with 242 m (207.1 points) close ahead of the two Norwegians Robert Johansson (205.6 points) and Andreas Stjernen (203.2 points). Stoch has now won on every day of the RAW AIR, except for Sunday's individual competition in Oslo.
Also the step from the large hill in Trondheim to the flying hill in Vikersund didn't pose a problem for Kamil Stoch. With his fourth win in the fourth qualification, Stoch further extended his overall lead and presented himself in a great shape also at the final stop of this RAW AIR. "It was tough, but it was a really good day for me. Ski Flying wasn't easy because the wind was changing all the time and the jury had a huge problem to find the right gate. I think I did a really good job, these three jumps were on a really high level and the last one was amazing. I really enjoyed this flight", Stoch said after the training and qualification on Friday in Vikersund.
Bright sunshine and cold temperatures provided a great backdrop in southern Norway, but the wind caused some delays during the training and the qualification. The constantly changing wind conditions made the jury's job difficult and the start of the qualification had to be postponed for half an hour.
Behind today's Top 3, Germany's Markus Eisenbichler showed a strong performance and with a jump of 225.5 m he came in fourth, followed by world record holder Stefan Kraft of Austria. Richard Freitag had strong jumps as well and finished sixth. Ryoyu Kobayashi, Tilen Bartol (SLO), Johann Andre Forfang and Dawid Kubacki completed the Top 10 in Vikersund.
According to the weather forecast, it should be sunny and cold the entire weekend, and the wind shall not cause any problems on both days. So it looks great for the final events of the 2nd RAW AIR in Norway.
The team competition starts on Saturday at 4:15 pm CET (trial round at 3 pm CET).
