Kamil Stoch of Poland took his 27th World Cup win on Sunday in Lahti (FIN). With an impressive performance, Stoch came in 28.2 points ahead of second-placed Markus Eisenbichler of Germany. Last season's overall World Cup winner Stefan Kraft (AUT) ended a long personal dry-spell today and came in third. After winning Olympic gold in PyeongChang, Kamil Stoch is now en route to also win the overall World Cup title this winter.

It was a true display of power by Kamil Stoch and almost a humiliation of the rest of the field when the score of 314.2 points was displayed on the scoreboard. Jumps of 132 m and 134 m earned Stoch a lead of 28.2 points. "The competition was really good. I'm glad that we could compete in fair conditions today. I really like this hill and I enjoyed jumping here. I had three nice days and jumped well from Friday to today. I'm satisfied with the job I did. I can't tell you what the key is to my performance because then it would not be a secret anymore. We have been working hard and now it pays off. I want to do my best in the next competitions, but the Raw Air will be tough for all of us", said Kamil Stoch.

Stoch is in an outstanding shape, the hill in Lahti definitely suits the three-time Olympic champion and the conditions with the slight tailwind were also exactly what the Pole likes.

Markus Eisenbichler top

Today's second place with jumps of 124.5 m and 129.5 m (286.0 points) was a career-best result for 26-year-old Markus Eisenbichler. And that despite the fact that he could barely avoid a crash after the landing of his second jump yesterday and felt pain in his knee afterwards. "The physical therapist did a good job yesterday evening and today. I could jump far and the landing was better than yesterday as well", joked the Bavarian. "Now I'm really happy about my career-best result. It was a good weekend here in Lahti with the win in the team event yesterday and today's second place.

Stefan Kraft back on the podium

Stefan Kraft made his comeback on the podium with the third place today. For Kraft, this was already the fourth third place this winter, the first since December 17th in Engelberg. Behind Stoch, it was a very close competition today. Kraft came in only 0.1 points behind Eisenbichler. "It's great to be back on the podium, it has been a while. I'm really happy, it was a close competition behind Kamil. At first, I was a little bit disappointed because I was so close behind Markus, but when I saw that I'm on the podium I was really happy. It's always great to come to Lahti, I like this hill a lot and I also like the city."

Dawid Kubacki (POL) and Andreas Stjernen (NOR) finished fourth and fifth. The two Kobayashi brothers of Japan came in sixth and seventh, the younger brother, Ryoyu, was one step ahead this afternoon. This result is a big success for the two Japanese, who have been jumping on a high level all winter.

With Andreas Wellinger and Karl Geiger in eighth and ninth, Richard Freitag in 15th and Stephan Leyhe in 20th, the Germans showed once again that they have a close team and that the win on Saturday was well-deserved.

Kamil Stoch now leads the overall World Cup with 963 points, followed by Richard Freitag (836 points) and Andreas Wellinger (768 points).

The World Cup continues on Friday, with the qualification in Oslo (NOR). This will be the start of the second edition of the RAW AIR with stops in Oslo, Lillehammer, Trondheim, and Vikersund.
