Kamil Stoch of Poland won the qualification in Willingen on Friday evening. With a jump of 142.5 m (133.9 points), he came in ahead of Germany's Richard Freitag (139.5 m; 132.0 points) and Norway's Daniel Andre Tande (142.5 m; 131.7 points).

After the first of five competition rounds (the qualification is one of them), Stoch is now leading the first edition of the Willingen 5.

The fourth place in this high-level qualification, that was held in good conditions, went to Johann Andre Forfang of Norway, followed by the two Slovenes Tilen Bartol and Anze Semenic.

Local hero Stephan Leyhe could enthuse the spectators in seventh, just like Markus Eisenbichler and Andreas Wellinger in 11th and 12th. Jernej Damjan (SLO), Stefan Hula (POL) and Robert Johansson came in eighth, ninth and tenth.

In absence of the Olympic team around Stefan Kraft, that was training in Planica and Villach this week and is not competing in Willingen, Daniel Huber was the best Austrian in 14th. 21-year-old Japanese Naoki Nakamura surprised in 19th.

David Siegel was disqualified before this jump because his suit did not meet the rules.

The first of two competitions will start on Saturday at 4 pm CET. The athlete, who scores the most points in the five competition rounds, is crowned the overall winner of the Willingen 5 and will be awarded a prize money of € 25 000,- after Sunday's event.

There will be no qualification for the second competition on Sunday, this means that all 56 athletes will be able to start in the first round.
