Katharina Althaus won the first of two FIS Ski Jumping World Cup competitions in Rasnov (ROU). The longest jump of the day of 93.5 m and 118.6 points earned her the win today. The final round was first postponed due to the difficult wind conditions and then canceled after only two competitors. Olympic champion Maren Lundby of Norway (92 m; 118.3 points) and Carina Vogt of Germany (89.5 m; 111.2 points) came in second and third.

For Katharina Althaus, this was the fourth World Cup win of her career, the third this season. "I'm very happy. The jump in the competition was my best here and I had some luck with the wind. The conditions were not easy, but that's Ski Jumping. It's nice to be here in Rasnov again and I hope the conditions will be better tomorrow so we can have two jumps then", said the winner.

"The result is good and I'm happy that I could show quite a good jump in the competition. It was a bit difficult today, but I think the jury managed to provide almost equal conditions for everyone. I'm happy that we could jump. My goal is to defend the lead in the overall World Cup until the end of the season", said World Cup leader Maren Lundby, who finished on the podium in all 11 World Cup competitions so far this winter.

With four more competitions this season (1 x Rasnov, 1 x Oslo, 2 x Oberstdorf), Katharina Althaus still has the theoretical chance to beat Olympic champion Lundby in the fight for the overall title.

The third place today went to Carina Vogt: "I'm really happy that I could show that I'm able to finish on the podium. I had some good jumps here and it feels good. The conditions were not a big challenge, we had to wait a while on top of the hill, but we had that before. The wind was not dangerous and the jury did a good job in handling it. I hope tomorrow we can have a competition with two jumps."

Junior World Champion Nika Kriznar of Slovenia is still in the same strong shape she showed in PyeongChang. With a jump of 93 m the 17-year-old finished fourth for the second time this season. Juliane Seyfarth was fifth and equaled her career-best result. 2015 she was also fifth in Ljubno and Rasnov.

Norway's Maren Lundby still leads the overall World Cup with 1020 points, followed by Katharina Althaus (740 points) and Japan's Sara Takanashi (616 points).

The second competition in Rasnov starts already at 9 am CET on Sunday. Then the ladies will compete on the Holmenkollen in Oslo on March 11th, before the season final will be held in Oberstdorf on March 24th and 25th.
