Kenneth Gangnes seriously injured again
Aug 31, 2018·Ski JumpingKenneth Gangnes continues to be dogged by bad luck: The Norwegian once again sustained a serious knee injury during training this week.
The 28-year-old, who suffered various setbacks due to injury during the course of his career, fell on Thursday during a training session on the Midtstubakken in Oslo and, as an MRI exam confirmed later, he tore his ACL once again. Kenneth Gangnes already missed last season due to the same injury and will now have to undergo surgery in the next couple of days.
"Kenneth worked so hard to come back again after his last injury and his physical shape was better than ever. The fact that something like this happens now shows how brutal high-performance sports can be", said Lars Haugvad, medical coordinator of the Norwegian national team.
Head coach Alexander Stoeckl was also shocked by the injury of one of his top athletes: "This is an incredibly sad news. Kenneth worked very hard on his comeback last winter and in summer. It all looked very promising. The rehabilitation was carried out very professionally. He was patient and everything went according to plan."
Kenneth Gangnes, third in the overall World Cup of the 2015/16 season, made his comeback after a more than a year long break due to injury this summer and showed convincing performances in the FIS Grand Prix with a second place in Hakuba (JPN) and three more Top 10 results.
