Kobayashi brothers secure a double victory

The Prevc brothers now have some competition in the result lists of Ski Jumping events - at least for this summer. Junshiro Kobayashi, the best in Saturday's competition at the FIS Grand Prix 2017 in Hakuba (JPN), also won on Sunday with 244.8 points (130 m and 126.5 m). The second place went to his younger brother Ryoyu, who scored 241.5 points with 134.5 m and 120 m. Anze Lanisek of Slovenia was third with 125 m and 126.5 m (233.1 points).

The conditions at the Olympic hill in Hakuba were extremely difficult on Sunday morning. Constantly changing winds made the task difficult for the jury and lead to many short interruptions. The jury had to move the gate various times in order to provide similar conditions for all the athletes.

"It was really very difficult today. As soon as we had changed the gate, the wind was again at the limit of the corridor. But sometimes we have such competitions, it was at no point dangerous today", Ivo Greger, the technical delegate of the FIS, explained after the competition.

At the end, the Kobayashi brothers stood on top of the podium. Both already showed on the previous days that they are currently in a top shape and have to be considered among the favorites. For Junshiro, at age 26 the older brother, this was the third Grand Prix win of his career. "I'm very satisfied with my jumps today and it's great that my brother is on the podium with me. Before the final round yesterday we were talking about being on the podium together, but it didn't work. Today we didn't talk about it and made it happen. We are both very happy now. Our goal is to be on the Olympic team together and that's what we are working for."

20-year-old Ryoyu Kobayashi was struggling a bit with his lack of experience and the nervousness. "It was the first time that I was the last to jump in the final round, I was very nervous and I was also too early at the take-off. For me this second place is a disappointment, I wanted to win here today. But this disappointment will be an additional motivation for me for the next Grand Prix events and the winter season", said the younger one of the Kobayashi brothers.

Slovenia's Anze Lanisek finished third today. "It was very difficult with the changing conditions today. Especially during the first part of the flight the wind constantly changed from head to tail wind. Today I had the necessary luck and, for the first time this summer, I was able to show a good performance also in the competition and not only in training and the qualification, like so far this summer."

Gangnes, Bickner, Ammann strong

Best Norwegian was Kenneth Gangnes, who closely missed the podium this time after he was second yesterday. 128.5 m and 123.5 m earned the 28-year-old the fourth place and a successful end of the trip to Asia. Simon Ammann once again confirmed his very good shape in sixth. The currently best American, Kevin Bickner, followed in seventh.

Finland's Antti Aalto achieved another strong result in tenth and so Japan was definitely worth the trip for him. Best of the Polish team was Jan Ziobro in 15th, exactly one place ahead of Germany's Pius Paschke, who showed another decent performance.

Wagner disqualified again

Lukas Wagner of Germany was disqualified for the second day in a row. On Saturday he was disqualified because his suit did not meet the rules, on Sunday he used that suit again, with the same outcome.

Poland's Dawid Kubacki is still leading the overall ranking of the Grand Prix with 300 points. With his two wins in Hakuba, Junshiro Kobayashi now moved up to third with his 208 points.

The FIS Grand Prix continues in two weeks in Chaikovsky (RUS).
