Kuusamo

Ruka’s Large Hill was built in 1964. During the next decades the hill got old-fashioned, so in 1996 the Large Hill was rebuilt as K120. When Rukatunturi was completed it was the largest around-the-year ski jumping hill worldwide.

For a couple of years, the skijumping World-Cup opening takes place at the Rukantunturi-hill. Due to it's location, 20 km north of Kuusamo, very cold temperatures are common already late November. So the athletes have their competitions often with temperatures of about - 20 °C.
