Lundby a class of her own

Maren Lundby also won the second competition of the FIS World Cup Ladies Ski Jumping in Sapporo (JPN). After jumps to 95,5 and 98,5 meters Lundby got 251,6 points and had a 20,2 point lead over Sara Takanashi who finished second. Third place went to Germany´s Katharina Althaus.

Lundby wants gold
Lundby said afterwards: “I am very happy with my performance today. My jumps where really good.  I will go to Zao next weekend because I really like Japan. The Olympics are still pretty far away but I want to win the gold medal.” Sara Takanashi is slowly getting into her best shape.

Important result for Takanashi
After 90,0 meters in the first round she was 9 points down to Katharina Althaus. With her second effort to 93,0 meters, the local hero scored 231,4 points in total and secured her best result of the season. Takanashi said: “This result is very important to me. Especially my second jump was really good.” 1,2 points behind, Katharina Althaus gained her 6th podium in the 6th competition of the season with jumps to 94,0 and 89,0 meters. The German said: “My first jump was pretty good. In the second round I could not quite pull it off. But I am happy about the result.”

Althaus and Vogt not in Zao
Althaus and team-mate Carina Vogt will not compete in Zao but fly back to Germany for some training and will return to the World Cup in Ljubno (SLO). Irina Avvakumova was very happy with her 4th place for the Russian team with 89,0 and 92,5 meters and 222,3 points. Yuki Ito finished 5th with 218,5 points, 4 points ahead of Chiara Hoelzl, who scored the best result of the season for the Austrian team. World Champion Carina Vogt came in 7th with 207,8 points,

klinec best Slovenian
Ema Klinec was best Slovenian on 8th place ahead of team-mate Ursa Bogataj and Kaori Iwabuchi. Xinyue Chang of China came in 13th behind Jaqueline Seifriedsberger and Ramona Straub. Julia Kykkaenen of Finland had her best result of the season on 19th place, Lara Malsiner was best Italian on 21st position ahead of Romania´s Daniela Haralambie. Taylor Henrich was best Canadian finishing 25th.

Lundby in the lead
In the overall World Cup, Maren Lundby is leading with 560 points ahead of Katharina Althaus and Sara Takanashi. The next competitions of the flying ladies will be held in Zao (JPN) next weekend. Two individual competitions and a team event are scheduled.
