Lundby far ahead at season opener

Maren Lundby is the first winner of the new season in the FIS World Cup Ladies Ski Jumping. The local hero took the victory in the first of three competitions of the new “Lillehammer Triple” ahead of Germany´s Katharina Althaus and Carina Vogt.

Lundby showed the furthest jumps of the day and performed 96,0 meters in both rounds and got 271,5 points. The Norwegian said: “It feels great to start a season with a victory, especially here in Lillehammer where I train. I jumped well although there are some things I need to improve. I want to focus on jumping well and on my technique this weekend.“   With her effort to 94,0 meters,

Althaus and Vogt on the podium
Katharina Althaus was still in the lead after the 1st round. )3,0 meters in the final round got her 262,2 points and an advantage of 10 points over World Champion Carina Vogt. Althaus said: “I am very satisfied with the result. I´ve made two good jumps and hopefully can jump well again tomorrow. I like the normal hill in Lillehammer, but I am excited about jumping on the big one on Sunday.“

Carina Vogt made 92,0 and 88,5 meters. The German said: “I am very happy with my performance today. I struggled a lot with this hill last year’s so I am very satisfied. Lillehammer Triple is a great idea. We need to take a next step in Ladies Ski Jumping and this is one of them. I am also looking forward to jumping on the large hill.“

Takanashi and Ito behind
0,2 points behind Vogt Sara Takanashi came in 4th. The defending champion in the Overall World Cup performed 93,0 and 89,0 meters. Right behind her, teammate Yuki Ito finished 5th with 246,1 points. Svenja Wuerth, Gianina Ernst and Juliane Seyfarth on places 6, 8 and 11 completed a very good performance for the German team. Russia´s Irina Avvakumova finished 7th, Spela Rogelj and Ursa Bogataj came in 9th and 10th for Slovenia.

Hoelzl best Austrian
Best Austrian was Chiara Hoelzl on 12th place ahead of Lea Lemare of France and Italy´s Lara Malsiner. Daniela Haralambie started the season with a decent 20th place for Romania, shared with Austria´s Jaqueline Seifriedsberger. Julia Kykkaenen came in 22nd for Finland, Xinyue Chang secured on 27th place the first points for team China and Nita Englund scored on 30th position for the United States.

The second competition of the Lillehammer Triple will be held on Saturday at 17.15. The qualification starts already at 16.00 (CET).
