Lundby unbeatable in Zao

Maren Lundby of Norway won the first Individual competition of the FIS World Cup Ladies Ski jumping in Zao (JPN). The longest jumps of the day to 101,5 and 100,0 meter gave her 260,9 points and a 41,6 point lead over Austria’s Chiara Hoelzl in second place. The third place went to Irina Avvakumova of Russia.
After her 4th victory in a row Lundby said: „I am very happy with both of my jumps today. Things are really working out good at the moment and I feel very comfortable here in Japan.“
First podium for Austria and Russia
Chiara Hoelzl secured with jumps to 94,5 and 94,0 meters and 219,3 points the first Austrian podium of the season. Hoelzl said: „This result is a big relief, not only form e but fort her whole team. I was finally able to show my best jumps in the competition and I was mentally stable enough to do it in both rounds.“ For the Russian team, it was the first podium of the season, too. Irina Avvakumova jumped 93,0 and 93,5 meters and got 216,8 points.
Avvakumova happy with the result but not with the jumps
But still, she was not entirely happy: „I am satisfied with the result but not with my jumps. I´ve made too many mistakes. Tomorrow we have a team competition and I want to try to not make the same mistakes again.“ On fourth and fifth place, the local heroes Sara Takanashi and Yuki Ito missed out on the podium.
Japan not on the podium - Strong Slovenians
Takanashi jumped 93,5 and 93,0 meters and was 0,8 points short of Avvakumova. Yuki Ito got 214,2 points for two jumps to 92,0 meters. Ema Klinec and Nika Kriznar on places 6 and 7 and Ursa Bogataj and Spela Rogelj on 10th and 11th position delivered a very good team result for Slovenia. Manuela Malsiner was best Italian on 9th place behind Yuka Seto.

Chang close to top 10**
Xinyue Chang performed another good result for the Chinese team on 13th place ahead of Italy´s Elena Runggaldier and Anna Odine Stroem of Norway. Julia Kykkaenen of Finland showed a season best on 18th place ahead of the best German lady Ramona Straub. Atsuko Tanaka and Natasha Bodnarchuk scored for Canada on 29th and 30th place.
On Saturday the team competition will be held in Zao at 9.00 am (CET).
