Olympic champion Maren Lundby of Norway won the qualification for the first of two World Cup competitions in Rasnov (ROU). With a jump of 94 m, the 23-year-old came in ahead of Austria's Jacqueline Seifriedsberger and Nika Kriznar of Slovenia. Best German was Katharina Althaus in eleventh.

Anna Odine Stroem of Norway surprised with strong performance and the fourth place. The 19-year-old jumped on 93 m and scored 107.6 points.

With Sara Takanashi (JPN) and Daniela Iraschko-Stolz (AUT) in fifth and sixth, two of the top contenders showed that they have to be reckoned with this weekend.

Relatively difficult wind conditions lead to various short break during this round. With 43 participants, only three athletes failed to make the cut in this qualification: Rumania's Carina Alexandra Militaru and Andreea Diana Trambitas and Virag Voros of Hungary will not get the chance to compete on Saturday.

The World Cup weekend in Rasnov was originally planned for January 6th and 7th, but could not take place then due to the mild temperatures.

The competition on Saturday will start at 10 am CET.
