At the end of last year, Matjaz Pungertar of Slovenia has decided to end his career in Ski Jumping.

As reported on slovenskenovice.si, he made this decision after the Slovenian national championships shortly before Christmas.

"The decision to end my career in sports has matured in my for a long time. For different reasons, I was not able to achieve the results I had wished for in the recent years. It got into a vicious circle that I couldn't get out off, even though I did everything I could", explained Matjaz Pungertar, who was struggling with injuries to his back and his ankle.

He showed his best performances in the World Cup in the 2014/15 season with a total of three Top 10 finishes and a sixth place in Nizhny Tagil as his best result. In summer 2013 he could win a FIS Grand Prix competition in Almaty and he represented Slovenia at the FIS Nordic World Championships in 2013 and 2015.

He now already has plans for the future: The 27-year-old, who already helped his girlfriend Neza with her work as a wedding and child photographer, wants to take over the job completely after the birth of their first child late March.
