Perfect summer season for Dawid Kubacki

A ski jumper can't prove his dominance in a more impressive way than Dawid Kubacki did in the last competition of the 2017 FIS Grand Prix. Despite extremely difficult conditions, the Pole had a fantastic jump in the first round that earned him the lead he then clearly defended in the final.

Nothing and no one can stop Dawid Kubacki this summer

With his win in Klingenthal, the 27-year-old is the outstanding athlete of the 2017 summer season. The team world champion of Lahti 2017 won all five Grand Prix competitions he took part in this year and also the overall title of the Grand Prix 2017.

Andreas Wellinger of Germany and Norway's Johann Andre Forfang finished second and third in the Grand Prix finale in Klingenthal.

"My first jump didn't feel so great, but considering the bad conditions it was a pretty good one", Kubacki said after his fifth win this summer. "This is a great success for me, but now the focus is already on the winter and I hope that I can still improve a couple of things until the season starts", explained the winner.

Wellinger wants another awesome winter

Andreas Wellinger, the top athlete of the German team, was happy with his second place and his jumps and is satisfied with the summer: "It went well for me here in Klingenthal. I'm very satisfied that I could achieve such good results in Hinzenbach and Klingenthal despite the problems I had this summer. The last winter was awesome, unfortunately, it took me until January to get in a really good shape. Hopefully, I'll be able to fight for the top spots right from the start in the upcoming winter."

Four Norwegians in the Top 10

After the Polish team had six athletes in the Top 10 in yesterday's qualification, the team of Norway showed a strong performance today. Besides Johann Andre Forfang, Daniel Andre Tande was fourth, Robert Johansson and Anders Fannemel came in 9th and 10th.

"I'm very happy with this result. I haven't been competing much this summer and so it's great to be on the podium here", said Forfang, who is optimistic when it comes to the upcoming season. "Today was a very good day for the entire Team and I think we can be even better in winter. Our goal is to be better than last winter and I believe we can achieve this goal."

Many Ski Jumping superstars followed right behind fourth-placed Daniel Andre Tande. Gregor Schlierenzauer (AUT), Simon Ammann (SUI), Kamil Stoch (POL) and Stefan Kraft finished fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth in the final competition before the start of the Olympic winter.

Klimov couldn't compete

For Russia's Evgeniy Klimov the Grand Prix ended with some bad luck. The Russian had a problem with his bindings right before his jump. The jury allowed him to start later, but it was impossible to fix the binding on time and so Klimov couldn't make his jump. His teammate Denis Kornilov could barely avoid a crash in the first round and landed already at 96.5 m.

Italians strong again

The Italian team of head coach Lukasz Kruczek is only one man short of having a competitive team. With Davide Bresadola, Alex Insam and Sebastian Colloredo the Italians showed a close team performance in 18th, 19th and 20th.

World Cup starts in six weeks

The 2017/18 Ski Jumping World Cup season already starts six weeks from now in Wisla (POL). The organizers there already started to produce the necessary artificial snow and so nothing shall get in the way of the World Cup opener in Poland.
