Peter Prevc took the great third place in the vote for "Athlete of the Year" by the United States Sports Academy.

The Slovene, who dominated last season and won all major titles like the overall World Cup, the 4-Hills-Tournament and Gold at the Ski Flying World Championships, only came in behind to real superstars of international sports.

So the first place went to Swimmer Michael Phelps of the USA, who won five gold and one silver medal at the 2016 Olympic Summer Games in Rio and is now the most decorated Olympian of all time with 28 Olympic medals (23 gold).

Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt, who won three gold medals (100 m, 200 m, 4x100 m relay) in Rio, as second.

Besides the Top 3, many more superstars like Stephen Curry (Basketball), LeBron James (Basketball), Rory McIlroy (Gold), Andy Murray (Tennis) and Cristiano Ronaldo (Soccer) were on the ballot.

US gymnast Simone Biles was named "Female Athlete of the Year". She was followed by Hungarian swimmer Katinka Hosszu and US American tennis star Serena Williams.

More information about this vote can be found on the website of the United States Sports Academy ussa.edu.
