Piotr Zyla ahead in the qualification
Aug 31, 2018·Ski JumpingPoland's Piotr Zyla won the qualification for the FIS Grand Prix in Einsiedeln (SUI) on Friday evening. With a jump of 112.5 m (137.3 points), Zyla won the round ahead of Dawid Kubacki (POL) and Kilian Peier (SUI).
After some interruptions due to the wind conditions during the two training rounds, the qualification on the HS 117 Andreas-Kuettel-hill went smoothly and the many fans saw Ski Jumping on a high level.
With all the athletes in the Top 15 and five in the Top 7 today, the Polish team once again proved that they are the ones to beat right now. Besides Zyla and Kubacki, Stefan Hula (4th), Kamil Stoch (6th) and Jakub Wolny (7th) also presented themselves in a strong shape.
Russia's Evgeniy Klimov was fifth and confirmed his strong performances so far this summer.
It was also a good day for the Swiss team: All Swiss ski jumpers made the cut for Saturday's competition. Best Swiss today was again Kilian Peier, who gained some attention with his third place in Hinterzarten last weekend.
The Austrian team also achieved a good result today with Gregor Schlierenzauer in eighth, Stefan Kraft in ninth and Andreas Kofler in 11th.
In absence of Karl Geiger and Markus Eisenbichler, Andreas Wellinger was the best German in 14th.
The weather forecast for Einsiedeln is good for tomorrow's competition (start: 6 pm CET).
