Poland starts summer with a home win

The team of Poland, with Piotr Zyla, Kamil Stoch, Dawid Kubacki and Maciej Kot, took the first win of the 2017 Ski Jumping summer season. Lead by an outstanding Dawid Kubacki, the team scored a total of 994.7 points and came in ahead of Norway (982.5 points) and Germany (951.9 points) in a very exciting competition. This was already the fourth win in Wisla for the Polish team, after their successes in 2013, 2014 and 2015.

Decision with the final jumps

The competition was on a high level and it was not decided until the very last jumps of each team. Until after the sixth jump, the team of Norway (Anders Fannemel, Robert Johansson, Kenneth Gangnes and Daniel Andre Tande) was leading ahead of Poland. Dawid Kubacki then had the longest jump of the day with 133.5 m and took the lead for his Polish team.

Maciej Kot defended this lead with the final jump against Norway's Daniel Andre Tande. "It was a very good competition today and the level was extremely high, even though it was this summer's first competition. Compared to yesterday's training, myself and the team can be really satisfied today", second-placed Tande analyzed after the team event.

Man of the day was local hero Dawid Kubacki and he, like his teammate Maciej Kot, was especially happy for the fans at the hill. "I think that the fans are satisfied with the competition, it was exciting and emotional until the end. We as a team are definitely satisfied with our jumps and the result, even if it was a bit difficult to jump today because of the difficult conditions", said Kot.

The German team (Andreas Wank, Stephan Leyhe, Andreas Wellinger, Karl Geiger) could beat Slovenia in the battle for the third place with the final jump of Stephan Leyhe. "We are satisfied with the result. I always enjoy the competitions here in Wisla and I'm already looking forward to the individual competition tomorrow", said the athlete from Willingen, who is training in Hinterzarten. Before Leyhe's jump, Andreas Wellinger could close the gap to the top with his jump of 131 m.

Finns in sixth

Behind the fourth-placed Slovenes (948.7 points), the team of Austria (Andreas Kofler, Gregor Schlierenzauer, Florian Altenburger and Daniel Huber) finished on a good fifth place. Finland surprised in sixth, ahead of the Czech Republic and Switzerland.

The teams of Italy, Russia, Japan the USA and Kazakhstan could not qualify for the final round.

The first individual competition of the 2017 summer season will be held on Saturday, the first round starts at 5:30 pm CET.
