Richard Freitag misses first Ski Flying event of the season
Aug 31, 2018·Ski JumpingThe German ski jumpers will travel to the next World Cup on the upcoming weekend on the Kulm Ski Flying hill in Bad MItterndorf (AUT) without Richard Freitag.
The 26-year-old, who fell in Innsbruck during the 4-Hills-Tournament, is not able to jump yet due to pain in the hip. "An MRT examination on Monday showed a bone marrow edema in the left acetabulum. This is no structural injury, but it is still very painful and it restricts the mobility significantly", explains team doctor Mark Dorfmueller.
Goal: Ski Flying World Championships
Richard Freitag now hopes that he will be able to compete in the Ski Flying World Championships in Oberstdorf from January 18th to 21st. "It is good to know that nothing more happened, but the edema is still causing pain. I will now add a few more days of physical therapy and rehabilitation so I'll then be able to take part in the World Championships at home healthy and fit."
The German team for the first Ski Flying event of the season will consist of Andreas Wellinger, Markus Eisenbichler, Karl Geiger, Stephan Leyhe and Pius Paschke. A sixth athlete might be named to the team after the two Continental Cup competitions in Bischofshofen on Wednesday and Thursday.
