A week after the men, the 2018 season of the FIS Grand Prix now also started for the ladies with their qualification in Hinterzarten (GER) on Friday evening.

Sara Takanashi, who already showed two strong jumps in the official training, had the best start of the summer and won the qualification with a 103.5 m jump and 125.3 points.

Jacqueline Seifriedsberger of Austria got closest to the 21-year-old Japanese today. She posted a jump of 100.5 m and finished second with her total of 121.4 points. The third place went to Takanashi's teammate Yuki Ito with 93.5 m and 114.0 points.

Best jumper of the German hosts was Juliane Seyfarth, who came in fourth, ahead of the two Slovenes Ursa Bogataj and Ema Klinec. With Pauline Hessler and Ramona Straub in eighth and ninth, two more athletes of the German Ski Association finished in the Top 10 of the qualification, Katharina Althaus was not too far behind in 12th.

The German team has to do without Carina Vogt this weekend. She will not be able to compete in Hinterzarten due to knee problems.

Russia's Alexandra Kustova was seventh, Kaori Iwabuchi and Yuka Seto completed the strong team result for the Japanese in tenth and eleventh.

Because only 41 athletes were competing and Slovenia's Spela Rogelj was disqualified already before her jump because her suit was not compliant to the rules, all jumpers made the cut for this summer's first competition.

The ladies' competition in Hinterzarten will take place on Saturday at 1:15 pm CET.
