Takanashi takes the day and the summer title
Aug 31, 2018·Ski JumpingSara Takanashi is the old and new FIS Grand Prix overall winner in Ladies Ski Jumping.
With a second invulnerable win in Chaikovsky (RUS) the Japanese also secured the overall victory.
Lundby and Vtic share 3rd place
102,5 and 101,0 meters and 232,4 points gave Takanashi a comfortable lead over local hero Irina Avvakumova (RUS) on 2nd place and Norway´s Maren Lundby and Maja Vtic of Slovenia, who shared the 3rd place in this final competition of the summer. Takanashi said: „I didn’t really think so much about winning the Grand Prix because I am very focussed on the winter. For me, it is completely different if I am jumping in summer or winter. So the summer is mainly meant to do the training and get myself in the right shape for the winter.“
Avvakumova with 2nd podium on home hill
Irina Avvakumova, 3rd in Saturday’s competition, performed 96,5 and 101,5 meters and got 205,6 points. Avvakumova said: „In the final round I simply made a very good jump. I would like to jump like this every weekend. The atmosphere in Chaikovsky is always great and a huge help. Winter will come and we will see, what I can do.“
Lundby and Vtic improving
Maren Lundby improved her jumping after a 6th place on Saturday and conquered the podium with 94,0 and 92,0 meters and 190,3 points. Lundby said: „It was a bit windy but all in all a very nice competition. It is good to be on the podium. But I still have some things to work on till the winter.“Maja Vtic proofed her good shape with 94,0 and 95,0 meters and secured the first Slovenian podium of the summer.
Seyfarth just missing out
Only 3,3 points behind Lundby and Vtic Germany´s Juliane Seyfarth just missed out on the podium and finished 5th ahead of Anastasiya Barannikova of Russia with 186,8 points and Lucile Morat of France with 183,3 points.Japan´s Yuka Seto came in 8th ahead of Manuela Malsiner of Italy and the second Slovenian in the top ten, Spela Rogelj.Julia Kykkaenen, surprising 2nd on Saturday, finished the summer on 11th place ahead of Ursa Bogataj and Alexandra Kustova.
Points for China
Norway´s Silje Opseth and Taylor Henrich of Canada competed the best 15. Romania´s Daniela Haralambie gained some confidence with 16th place, Abby Ringquist was best of the US girls on 18, Li Xueyao scored for the Chinese team on 24th position.
With her third victory of this summer Sara Takanashi took over the lead in the overall standing, making her the summer champion for the 6th time in a row since 2012 with 380 points ahead of Irina Avvakumova (290) and Maren Lundby (276).
