COC-M: Clemens Aigner wins ahead of two local heroes

Austria's Clemens Aigner prevented a 1-2 finish for the hosting team of Germany in the first of two Continental Cup competitions this weekend in Oberstdorf (GER).

The longest jump of the day of 136.5 m in the earned the 26-year-old the lead after the first round on the HS 137 large hill on Friday morning. He could then defend this top position in the final with a jump of 132 m and 285.7 points. The Tyrolean, who also stood on top of the podium three times in Sapporo in January, now won the last four COC's he took part in.

After the first half of the competition, the two Germans Felix Hoffmann and Pius Paschke were tied for second behind Clemens Aigner. In the end, Felix Hoffmann took the second place for the third time this season only one point behind the winner with 135 m and 134 m. Pius Paschke, who won one of the competitions in Iron Mountain a week ago, finished third with 133.5 m and 131.5 m and 279.5 points.

The great team result of the German Ski Association in this opening event in Oberstdorf was completed by Moritz Baer, who came in fifth, behind Slovenia's Tilen Bartol.

The two Japanese Keiichi Sato and Taku Takeuchi finished sixth and seventh, followed by Pawel Wasek (8th) and Andrzej Stekala (9th) of Poland. The best Norwegian today was Robin Pedersen in tenth.

With his fifth win this season, Clemens Aigner now took lead in the overall ranking of the Continental Cup. He scored a total of 613 points and leads ahead of Pius Paschke (569 points) and Robin Pedersen (562 points).

The second competition in Oberstdorf is held on Saturday at 6:30 pm CET.
