COC-M: Junior World Champion also wins in the COC

Iron Mountain (USA) seems to be a very good place for young Norwegian Thomas Aasen Markeng. After the newly crowned Junior World Champion finished on the podium for the first time when he was third in the first Continental Cup competition of the day, he took his first win in the COC just a few hours later.
The 18-year-old, who was fourth after the first round with 129.5 m, secured this win with a jump of 134 m in the final and 270.0 points. Before this very successful day, the fifth place in Zakopane last September was the best result of Thomas Aasen Markeng in the Continental Cup.
The longest jump of the competition was shown by Austria's Stefan Huber with 139 m in the first round, which earned him the half-time lead. With 123.5 m he could not defend the top position in the second round. He came in second with 263.4 points and stood on the podium for the first time this winter.
Like his teammate Stefan Huber, Markus Schiffner could also significantly improve his result in the second event on the Pine Mountain. After the 17th place earlier, the Austrian came in third this time with 126.5 m and 126 m and 261.7 points.
Marius Lindvik of Norway showed the best performance in the final round with 134.5 m and moved up from 12th to fourth. Aleksander Zniszczol of Poland followed in fifth, Slovenia's Jaka Hvala was sixth.
Together with Thomas Aasen Markeng and Marius Lindvik, Joakim Aune and Andreas Granerud Buskum completed the strong team result of the Norwegians in seventh and ninth, the eighth place went to Slovenia's Tilen Bartol.
Behind Zak Mogel of Slovenia, Pius Paschke, the winner of the first competition, came in eleventh. Young German Justin Lisso was en route to the podium in third behind Huber and Schiffner after the first round, in the end, he finished 12th.
After the first day of competition in Iron Mountain, Robin Pedersen leads the overall ranking of the Continental Cup with 529 points. He is followed by Clemens Aigner (513 points) and Pius Paschke (487 points).
The third and final competition of the weekend starts on Sunday at 5:30 pm CET (10:30 am LOC).
