COC-M: Norwegians unbeatable again
Mar 03, 2019·Ski JumpingAfter the 1-2 finish in the first weekend of the Continental Cup in Rena (NOR), the local heroes repeated this result on Sunday. With Marius Lindvik and Fredrik Villumstad, two Norwegians stood on top of the podium again.
Marius Lindvik, with 124 m sixth after the first round, jumped on 128.5 m in the final round and claimed his third win in a row, the sixth this winter, with his total of 222.8 points. "It was very difficult for the last jumpers, especially in the first round, because the tracks got slower due to the snowfall. However, I managed to show good jumps so I am happy about that", explained Marius Lindvik.
Lindvik's teammate Fredrik Villumstad, who came in on the career-best fifth place in the first competition in Rena and probably competed with a lot of extra self-confidence today, could further improve his result. The 19-year-old was in the lead at halftime with 129.5 m finished second overall with his second jump of 122.5 m and 220.7 points. "My jump in the first round was very good. I guess I was quite lucky to start early in these weather conditions. The second round was not so good for me, but it was good enough. Before this weekend I did not have too many plans concerning the rest of the winter season, but right now I am looking forward to the Raw Air and I hope that I will get the chance to compete in at least two World Cup competitions", said Villumstad.
After a, for him, probably disappointing 25th place yesterday, Martin Hamann of Germany showed that he can do a lot better also in Rena with 128.5 m and 119.5 m and 214.8 points that earned him the third place. "The third place is very positive for me. Even if the weather conditions were much better yesterday, I managed to perform on a higher level today. The hill in Rena is a great one and it is nice to jump here", said Hamann.
With his performance, Martin Hamann prevented a Norwegian sweep today. Robin Pedersen, second on Saturday, came in fourth behind the German. Not only the Norwegians but also the Germans presented themselves strong. Besides Hamann, Felix Hoffmann and Moritz Baer in fifth and seventh were also among the best today.
Zak Mogel was the best Slovene again, this time in sixth. Mikhail Nazarov of Russia finished on the very good eighth place. With Maciej Kot of Poland and Anders Fannemel of Norway, two athletes who were expected to compete in the WSC in Seefeld rather than in the Continental Cup this week, tied for ninth.
Clemens Aigner of Austria, eleventh today, leads the overall ranking of the Continental Cup with 977 points. Marius Lindvik (863 points) and Robin Pedersen (754 points) follow in second and third.
The Continental Cup continues on March 16th and 17th with two competitions in Zakopane (POL).
