COC-M: Perfect weekend for Robin Pedersen
Dec 16, 2018·Ski JumpingRuka lived up to its reputation as beautiful, but often also difficult venue also at the Continental Cup this weekend. Like on Saturday, the winner was also crowned after only one round on Sunday. The trial round earlier today also became a victim of the difficult conditions.
Obviously, the wind was not a problem this weekend for Robin Pedersen. The 22-year-old Norwegian, who took his first win in the COC on Saturday, followed up on this performance today and also won on day 2 in Ruka with 137 m and 119.6 points.
This means that all wins so far this season went to Norway: In the opener in Lillehammer a week ago, Marius Lindvik won twice, now his teammate did the same.
"It was my first victory yesterday and now the second today, I'm really happy. My jump today was quite good, I'm really satisfied. Headwind is good for me, so the conditions were perfect today. I don't know where I will compete next, that's up to the coaches", said this weekend's best ski jumper after his second win.
The other spots on the podium on Sunday morning went to Germany. Felix Hoffmann jumped on 136 m and came in second with a total of 118.8 points. Only 0.1 points behind, Martin Hamann was third with his jump of 142 m.
Ulrich Wohlgenannt was fourth and achieved the best result for the Austrian team on this weekend in the Far North. He was followed by the best athletes of Slovenia and Poland with Anze Semenic and Pawel Wasek in fifth and sixth.
Artti Aigro of Estonia was among the best again in seventh and confirmed his strong performance from yesterday when he was fifth. The longest jump of the day was posted by Japanese Shohei Tochimoto, who jumped on 147 m and landed only half a meter short of the official hill record held by Stefan Kraft. Due to the strong headwind during his jump, he was only ninth despite the outstanding distance.
Besides Pawel Wasek, two more members of the Polish team achieved Top 10 results on the HS 142 Rukatunturi-hill with Aleksander Zniszczol and Klemens Muranka in ninth and tenth
With his two wins this weekend, Robin Pedersen now took the lead in the overall ranking with 275 points. Marius Lindvik (200 points) is now second and Aleksander Zniszczol (199 points) third.
The Continental Cup continues right after Christmas with two competitions in Engelberg (SUI) on December 27th and 28th.
