David Siegel, who sustained a serious knee injury in his crash in the second round of the team competition last Saturday in Zakopane, underwent successful surgery on Tuesday in Munich.

"The surgery went well. The ruptured ACL in the right knee was replaced and a meniscal suture was done as well", Dr. Peter Brucker, who performed the surgery, is quoted in a media release of the German Ski Association.

David Siegel, who also suffered a cartilage injury, will now be sidelined for almost a year. "David has our full support during the time of recovery. If the healing process goes well without complications, David will be able to start training again in about eight to ten months", said Dr. Mark Dorfmueller, the team doctor of the German ski jumpers.

The 22-year-old German national champion is already looking ahead again: "That's bad, but I had to overcome other injuries already. I also won't be discouraged in this situation. The surgery was the first step on my way back and after a resting period, I will start the rehabilitation right away."
