For Germany's Gianina Ernst, the season is already over before it really started. After a crash in the first round of the Continental Cup in Notodden (NOR), the sad diagnosis of an ACL tear now came from Dr. Andreas Kugler in Munich.

"I fell at the landing. I felt pain and had problems bending and extending the knee so I knew right away that I got injured. Unfortunately, I can't change it now and so I'm already looking ahead. Now I hope that the surgery will go well and after that, I'll work on my comeback", said the 19-year-old.

Head coach Andreas Bauer is also very disappointed: "This is a setback for Gianina and the team. With very good performances, she was on her way back to the World Cup team. The athlete will now be treated with physical therapy and the surgery will be done as soon as the inflammation in the knee decreased."

Ernst gained attention in her very first appearance in the World Cup on December 7th, 2013 in Lillehammer. At age 14 she finished second in this competition. It has been her only podium finish in the World Cup so far.
