Green light for the World Cup in Engelberg
Dec 07, 2018·Ski JumpingOnly three days after the cancellation of the World Cup in Titisee-Neustadt, the organizers of the next Ski Jumping World Cup in Engelberg gave the green light. As everywhere in Europe, it's also too warm for this time of year in Engelberg, but it will be cold in the region right in time. Temperatures below zero are forecasted for the entire next week. This means that the World Cup from December 14th to 16th can probably take place, despite the fact that the hill is still green right now.
It's not even 200 km from Titisee-Neustadt to Engelberg, the climate is similar at both locations. But the advantage of Engelberg this year is that it is on the Ski Jumping calendar of the FIS a week later.
And this week makes the difference because the cold is coming and so the hill can be covered with snow and be prepared perfectly for the World Cup on the upcoming days.
"We expect the forecasted cold will come and there will be snow in order to give us the wintery backdrop. But we are definitely playing and safe and so we are already getting snow from the Gotthard mountain with which we will start to prepare the hill this weekend. Of course, the forecasted makes this task a lot easier for us. With the temperatures below zero, we will be able to provide the teams with a perfectly prepared hill, just what the world's best ski jumpers are used to here in Engelberg", explains Hubert Mathis, who has been working for this World Cup event for weeks already and will be the Chief of Competition on the weekend.
"Right now I'm convinced that we can look forward to a Ski Jumping weekend with great conditions here in Engelberg", Mathis concluded.
Green light also for the ladies
The green light was also given for the ladies World Cup that same weekend in Premanon (FRA). In France, it will get colder over the next couple of days and so the hill there will be ready for its premiere in the ladies World Cup.
