According to a report of the Finnish newspaper Ilta-Sanomat, Ski Jumping legend Janne Ahonen has decided to end his long, successful career but he wants to stay involved in the sport.

"I will never quit Ski Jumping, I will continue to jump when I feel like it. But I can confirm that I will not take part in any competitions anymore", the 41-year-old, who has already announced his retirement in 2008 and 2011 but then returned to the World Cup, is quoted on is.fi.

This means that Janne Ahonen participated in the World Cup for the last time early March in his hometown of Lahti, more than 25 years after his debut in December 1992. In his final individual competition, he came in 37th.

36 World Cup wins - 12 medals at major events - 5 4-Hills victories

During his extraordinary career, the Finn took part in the incredible number of 412 individual World Cup competitions, stood on the podium a total of 108 times and claimed 36 World Cup wins (the last one in March 2008 in Kuopio). Janne Ahonen is the only ski jumper, who could win the 4-Hills-Tournament five times.

He won a total of 10 medals at World Championships, among which individual gold on the large hill in Oberstdorf 2005. Janne Ahonen was not able to achieve his big goal of winning Olympic Gold in 14 Olympic competitions he took part in, but he won silver with the team twice (2002 and 2006).
