Ladies start into the WSC with two trainings
Feb 25, 2019·Ski JumpingWith the first two official training sessions on the normal hill in Seefeld (AUT), the Nordic World Ski Championships also started for the female ski jumpers today. A total of four training rounds were held on the HS 109 Toni-Seelos-Olympic hill.
The athletes, who were already among the best during the course of this season, left the strongest impression today. World Cup leader Maren Lundby finished first and second in the first two rounds with jumps of 102.5 m and 98.5 m. The Norwegian then skipped the next two rounds later this afternoon.
The two German top athletes Katharina Althaus and Juliane Seyfarth could each win one round on Monday. Seyfarth was not among the best at the beginning, but she then won round three with 95.5 m. Katharina Althaus convinced right from the start with the places four (99.5 m) and one (102 m) and decided to not jump in the final two rounds of the day.
"My two jumps were okay. There are still small things to improve and I'll have to show that tomorrow and the day after tomorrow", said Katharina Althaus. Her teammate Juliane Seyfarth is also confident that she can jump even better: "I think there's still room for improvement in my jumps. I will now watch the videos together with the coaches."
For the hosting team of Austria, Eva Pinkelnig and Chiara Hoelzl were the ones with the most consistent performances. Sara Takanashi of Japan, who still has to wait for her first big title despite her 56 World Cup wins, participated only in the second training session and was third and eleventh.
Slovenia's Ursa Bogataj posted consistently strong jumps today. After finishing fifth twice and second and first today, she can now be considered one of the contenders for the medals in Wednesday's individual competition.
The first event for the ladies at the WSC will be the premiere of the team event on Tuesday (4:15 pm CET), the individual competition follows on Wednesday (4:15 pm CET).
