Maren Lundby wins in Rasnov

Maren Lundby won the first of two FIS World Cup competitions in Rasnov (ROU) this weekend. With the longest jumps in both rounds (94 m and 95 m) the Norwegian came in clearly ahead of Katharina Althaus of Germany (91.5 m and 93 m) and Sara Takanashi of Japan (92 m and 94 m). This was the 16th World Cup win for Lundby, the third this season after she also won in Sapporo and Zao on the last two weekends.
Many spectators created a great atmosphere at the HS 97 hill in Rasnov. "I am really happy about another victory. I think my jumps are pretty stable, and that’s what has been missing until now. I am looking forward to tomorrow. It is a real hard fight for the overall lead at the moment, I have to stay focused and work hard", said the winner of today's competition.
After this win, Lundby is now only 14 points behind Katharina Althaus in the overall World Cup. "I will have to fight to defend my yellow bib as Maren got really close with today’s victory", explained Althaus. "I am very happy to be on the podium again. My jumps today were not so good but I hope I can show some better ones in tomorrow’s competition", said Althaus.
Sara Takanashi explained after the competition: "It was such a nice competition in almost perfect weather conditions. I am very happy to be on the podium again. My jumps are getting better and better, so I hope for another podium tomorrow."
With Juliane Seyfarth in fourth, Carina Vogt in eighth, Anna Rupprecht in tenth and Ramona Straub in 15th, the Germans achieved yet another strong team result.
Nika Kriznar (SLO), Anna Odine Stroem (NOR) and Chiara Hoelzl (AUT) also convinced with top results on the places five to seven. For Daniela Iraschko-Stolz it didn't go that well today, she was only 14th.
Katharina Althaus defended a close lead in the overall World Cup with 702 points, followed by Maren Lundby (688 points) and Daniela Iraschko-Stolz (477 points).
The second competition in Rasnov starts on Sunday at 12:30 pm CET.
