His very good performances over the last couple of months earned Philipp Aschenwald a spot on the Austrian team for the World Cup opener in Wisla (POL).

The 22-year-old won six Continental Cup competitions this summer and took a clear win in the overall ranking. The Tyrolean finished third behind Daniel Huber and Michael Hayboeck in the Austrian national championships on the large hill last weekend.

"Philipp Aschenwald did more than well this summer. With his strong performances, he earned us the seventh quota spot for the first competition period in winter and he will now get this place on the team. I think that our team can travel to Wisla with a lot of self-confidence. There's about a month left for the fine-tuning before the season opener and we want to train on the ice-track in Innsbruck already next week. After that we are planning to make our first jumps on snow in Sweden", said head coach Andreas Felder.

Besides Philipp Aschenwald, Clemens Aigner, Manuel Fettner, Michael Hayboeck, Daniel Huber, Stefan Kraft, and Gregor Schlierenzauer will represent Austria in the World Cup in Wisla (November 16th to 18th). Andreas Kofler will start the 2018/19 season in the Continental Cup.
