Slovenian team starts summer training
Apr 26, 2019·Ski JumpingFor the best Slovenian ski jumpers, the preparation for the upcoming season, with the Ski Flying World Championships in Planica in March 2020 as a special highlight for the local heroes, started with physical training in Kranj last week.
Before the 2019/20 season, there were some changes in the team of head coach Gorazd Bertoncelj. Besides Peter Prevc, Domen Prevc, Jernej Damjan, and Anze Semenic, who were already on the A-team last year, Anze Lanisek and Timi Zajc now also met the required criteria.
The Junior's A-team consists of Tilen Bartol, Ziga Jelar, Bor Pavlovcic, and Zak Mogel.
There are also new faces on the coaching staff. Former ski jumper Robert Hrgota replaces Nejc Frank as an assistant coach. As a successor of Fred Zoz, who accepted an offer from Finland, another coach, who will also be responsible for the jumping suits, shall be presented soon.
After the kick-off of the summer training in Kranj, the main goal for Gorazd Bertoncelj and his team, as for all the others, is now to find the right balance between competitions and training over the next couple of months. "We will try to achieve the best possible results in summer, but not all of the athletes will take part in all the competitions. Everyone shall participate in a sufficient number of competitions and also have enough time for the preparation for the winter season", Gorazd Bertoncelj explained on sloski.si.
Timi Zajc is especially motivated for the upcoming tasks. The 19-year-old took his first World Cup win in a Ski Flying event in Oberstdorf in February and ended the season as the best Slovene in ninth place of the overall World Cup. Now the youngster wants to benefit from the experiences he gained: "This year I know what I have to do in summer in order to be successful towards the end of the winter. First and foremost I want to work on my speed in the inrun and I will place less emphasis on competitions and results. I will focus on the winter and I know what I have to improve."
