Thomas Aasen Markeng and Silje Opseth dominate Norwegian nationals

Thomas Aasen Markeng and Silje Opseth showed dominant performances in the individual competitions at the Norwegian Ski Jumping championships on the normal hill in Oslo.

Junior World Champion Thomas Aasen Markeng was clearly the best athlete in the men's competition. The 18-year-old, who made his debut in the World Cup last February, posted the longest jumps in both rounds on the Midtstubakken with 106 m and 103 m and took the title with his total of 263.0 points.

Exactly 20 points behind the winner, Halvor Egner Granerud and Robert Johansson tied for second. Granerud jumped on 97 m and 100.5 m on Saturday, Johansson landed at 97 m and 101 m.

Robin Pedersen came in fourth, close behind the Top 3, Mats Bjerke Myhren, second after the first round, followed in fifth. In absence of athletes like Johann Andre Forfang, Daniel Andre Tande and Marius Lindvik, Andreas Granerud Buskum and Anders Fannemel finished sixth and seventh.

In the ladies' competition, Silje Opseth proved to be unbeatable. She claimed the clear win with her jumps of 96 m and 93.5 m and 224.0 points. The second place went to Anna Odine Stroem with 85.5 m and 90 m (194.0 points). Ingebjoerg Saglien Braaten was third with 78.5 m and 84 m (163.5 points). The 2018/19 overall World Cup winner Maren Lundby did not take part in this competition.

After the individual events, the team competition was held later on Saturday evening. With a total of 1014.5 points, the title went to Oppland 1 with Andreas Granerud Buskum, Mats Bjerke Myhren, Robert Johansson and Thomas Aasen Markeng. Matias Braathen, Christian Roeste Solberg, Fredrik Villumstad and Halvor Egner Granerud secured the second place for Akershus 1 with 905.5 points. Oslo (Richard Haukedal, Sander Vossan Eriksen, Kristoffer Eriksen Sundal, Oscar Westerheim) finished third with 843.0 points.
