Originally, the Nordic World Ski Championships in Seefeld should have been an intermediate goal for the Chinese ladies' Ski Jumping team on the way to the Olympic Games in Beijing 2022.

The team of head coach Heinz Kuttin, former Ski Jumping World Champion, participated in all World Cup competitions this winter and scored remarkable 107 World Cup points, they earned five quota spots for the WSC, a real success considering the fact that the Chinese started competing in the World Cup with the world's best ski jumpers practically from scratch. The WSC would have been the perfect opportunity for the athletes to gain valuable experiences at such a major event.

The Chinese were on the start lists for the WSC in Seefeld, but none of the athletes of the Chinese team is now competing.

"When we started the project, we set ambitious goals and we were on a really good track as a team. During the course of the season, it became obvious that the winter was extremely exhausting and that the physically draining competitions and training sessions took its toll.
The ski jumpers pushed their limits, physically and mentally, that's why we had to take a break, which was not planned, after the competitions in Ljubno. The athletes didn't feel secure during their jumps anymore, it would have been too dangerous to ignore that.
One should not forget that the athletes had very exhausting training sessions and competitions in a totally new environment in demanding and draining conditions right from the start of the project. This is not easy to handle and it takes a lot of energy.
We now consider this break an opportunity to recharge the batteries and we will start training again and continue our mission in due time", explains Heinz Kuttin.
