Zakopane: 1-2 finish for Norway in the qualification
Jan 18, 2019·Ski JumpingJohann Andre Forfang and Robert Johansson secured a 1-2 finish for Norway in the qualification for Sunday's individual competition in Zakopane. The two Norwegians posted jumps of 138.5 m and 135.5 m. The third place went to Slovenia's Timi Zajc.
More than 10.000 spectators attended the qualification in Zakopane, during which there was no entertainment program due to a national day of morning. The Norwegians showed a strong performance, but they also benefited from the changing wind conditions that made really far jumps impossible for the last group of the 66 participants.
The top favorites Kamil Stoch (21st), Dawid Kubacki (10th) and Ryoyu Kobayashi (31st) were not among the best today.
Stefan Kraft of Austria and Russia's Evgeniy Klimov presented themselves in a good shape in fourth and fifth.
Best German was Karl Geiger in seventh, Finland's Antti Aalto came in eighth.
Some well-known athletes failed to make the cut for the competition on Sunday, among them where Jurij Tepes, Gregor Deschwanden and Kevin Bickner.
