1-2 finish for Norway in Lillehammer
Mar 10, 2020·Ski JumpingMaren Lundby won the women's Ski Jumping World Cup in Lillehammer on Tuesday evening. The Olympic champion came in ahead of her teammate Silje Opseth and Austria's Chiara Hoelzl.
Today's results were overshadowed first by the serious injury of Austrian Jacqueline Seifriedsberger and then by problems with the data service. Seifriedsberger sustained an ACL tear which means that the 29-year-old will be sidelined for a long time. "That's so bad, my shape just got better and now this happens. But I'll be back", said Seifriedsberger.
Wrong results
After the competition, Silje Opseth was declared the winner due to problems with the distance measuring system. After the award ceremony and some moments of confusion, it became clear that Maren Lundby won the competition on the 1994 Olympic hill, Opseth was second.
"I feel sorry for Silje at the moment, winning like this feels a bit weird. After the ceremony, they told us that the made a mistake in the calculation. Humans make mistakes, but that should not happen. This must have been horrible for Silje. Now I'm looking forward to Trondheim and I hope I can take the overall win there", Maren Lundby said.
"It was very emotional today. First I was really satisfied, then I was told that Maren had won and I was second. I'm really happy for Maren, but I'm also a bit sad now because I thought I had won. When you can stand on top of the podium for the first time and then it turns out you are only second, it's very emotional. I don't know what to say. Now I'll focus on the jumps in Trondheim and attack there again", explained Opseth.
Eva Pinkelnig was fourth, followed by Slovenia's Ema Klinec. Katharina Althaus was the best German in sixth.
Maren Lundby leads the overall ranking of the RAW AIR with 824.2 points, followed by Silje Opseth (780.2 points) and Austrian Eva Pinkelnig (725.3 points).
The women#s RAW AIR continues on Wednesday with the opening jump in Trondheim (8 pm CET), before the final competition will take place on Thursday at 8 pm CET.
The Norwegian government has decided that the competition in Trondheim will be held without spectators.
