As the International Olympic Committee announced in Lausanne (SUI) on Monday evening, the 2026 Olympic Winter Games will be held in Milan and Cortina.

The Italian bid won the election of the IOC against Stockholm/Are (SWE).

"Congratulations to Milan-Cortina. We can look forward to outstanding and sustainable Olympic Winter Games in a traditional winter sports country. The passion and knowledge of Italian fans, together with experienced venue operators, will create the perfect atmosphere for the best athletes in the world", IOC president Thomas Bach is quoted on olympic.org.

The decision in favor Milano-Cortina means that the Ski Jumping Olympic champions will be crowned in Predazzo in 2026. The most recent major event there were the Nordic World Championships 2013, where Kamil Stoch (large hill), Anders Bardal (normal hill), Austria (team men) and Japan (mixed team) claimed the titles.

The last Olympic Winter Games in Italy were held in 2006 in Pragelato. Back then, Thomas Morgenstern (large hill), Lars Bystoel (normal hill) and the Austrian team took the gold medals.
