Update: Bad Sunday for the ski jumpers on the Holmenkollen in Oslo
Mar 08, 2020·Ski JumpingThe first weekend of the RAW AIR couldn't have ended any worse for the ski jumpers. After the good start with the qualification and the first competition on Friday and Saturday, wind, fog, and rain took control on the Holmenkollen on Sunday.
For the ski jumpers, this weekend in Oslo is definitely one to remember. After the entire Holmenkollen has been closed to the public already before the first jump on Friday and the qualification and Saturday's team event were held without any spectators, the weather conditions with wind, fog, and water then caused problems on Sunday.
At first, the start of the men's competition was postponed from 2:15 pm to 4:30 pm, but the strong wind didn't calm down. Gusts of up to 10 m/s made it also impossible to start at 4:30 pm. In addition to that, the strong rain caused puddles in the outrun and it took a lot of effort to get the hill ready again.
After two short delays, the jury then decided to cancel the competition in Oslo at 5 pm. A decision about a possible replacement has yet to be made and it will be published later today.
"There were gusts of up to 7 m/s head- or tailwind. This is not stable enough", FIS Race Director Walter Hofer explained this decision. "We will definitely have some replacement in Lillehammer tomorrow, the exact schedule will be announced later", Walter Hofer added.
Update:
Later today, the women's competition had to be canceled as well. There should also be a replacement competition in Lillehammer. We will inform about the new schedule here.
