Chiara Hoelzl wins on turbulent day in Klingenthal

Austrian Chiara Hölzl celebrated her first World Cup victory at the Ski Jumping World Cup in Klingenthal (GER) on Saturday. The 22-year-old from SV Schwarzwach-Salzburg jumped 141 meters to win ahead of Ema Klinec from Slovenia and Katharina Althaus from Germany.

After the snowy trial jump in the morning and the wind getting too strong, the competition had to be postponed in the afternoon before the men World Cup competition. Due to circumstances, a single round was eventually decided, won by Austrian Chiara Hoelzl, ahead of Ema Klinec from Slovenia and local hero Katharina Althaus.

Austrian Chiara Hoelzl, who was already having a good season start with 2 podiums last weekend in Lillehammer made the best jump of 141 m, scoring 124.6 points. For her first time, she claimed the highest step of the podium, showing as she said that "she could still do better than her trial jump earlier in the morning."

Second, Ema Klinec from Slovenia commented “My jumps were not so good in last competitions as I just had twice the fourth place in Lillehammer and I want to take my revenge ". She demonstrated she was capable to do a great job with a jump of 129 m, earning 118.9 points.

With a large and cheerful public in the Vogtland arena expecting her, local hero Katharina Althaus demonstrated her fans she was in good shape and posted a jump of 131.5 m, scoring 118.6 points “It’s great that I can stand on the podium here, it was not an easy competition but I showed my best jump and I am really happy. “ explained the German woman.

Japanese Sara Takanashi finished fourth and Yuki Ito eight.

The overall leader Maren Lundby from Norway didn't have the best conditions and finished fifth.

Daniela Iraschko-Stolz from Austria, who was very strong on friday's training posted a good jump of 127 m and finished on the sixth place.

The other local, Juliane Seyfarth, performed much better than the first competitions and claimed the seventh position with a large smile.

Anna Shpyneva claimed the 9th position, being the first Russian in the top 10.

Norwegian Silje Opseth finished tenth.

After three competitions, Maren Lundby leads the overall ranking of the World Cup with 245 points, 5 points ahead of  Chiara Hoelzl. Ema Klinec follows in third (180 points).

The World Cup continues in Sapporo, (JPN), on January 10th 2020.
