COC-M: Clemens Leitner wins in Sapporo

Clemens Leitner of Austria was the best in the first of two Continental Cup competitions in Sapporo (JPN) on Saturday.

The 21-year-old Tyrolean was only seventh after the first round with 134.5 m, with the best jump in the final of 137 m and a total of 220.8 points he could then move up to the top and claim his second win in the COC. He stood on top of the podium for the first time in Bischofshofen two weeks ago. "I was feeling very good today, even though I had problems sleeping due to the time difference. I'm very satisfied with my jumps and of course also with the win," said Clemens Leitner.

Klemens Muranka of Poland was the best at halftime of the event with 135. m, in the end, he came in second with his second jump of 130 m and 213.8 points and achieved his best result this winter.
Local hero Taku Takeuchi was third with 131.5 m and 130 m and 208.2 Punkten and secured the podium finish for the hosting team of Japan. "On this hill you need to have some luck with the wind and I had that today. That's one reason why I could finish third", told Taku Takeuchi.

Noway's Anders Haare finished fourth, Hiroaki Watanabe of Japan was fifth and achieved the best result of his career in the Continental Cup.  Together with today's winner Clemens Leitner, Clemens Aigner and Peter Resinger in sixth and eighth, provided a very good team result for Austria.

With Anze Semenic in seventh and Ziga Jelar, who was third behind Muranka and Aigner after the first round, in ninth, also two Slovenes were among the Top 10 today. Best German was Martin Hamann in tenth.

Clemens Leitner could extend his lead in the overall ranking of the Continental Cup with his win today. He now leads with 585 points, followed by Taku Takeuchi (474 points) and Clemens Aigner (398 points).

The second competition in Sapporo starts on Sunday at 10:30 am LOC (2:30 am CET).
