COC-M: First win for Joakim Aune

Norway's Joakim Aune claimed his first-ever win in the Continental Cup in a close competition in Frenstat (CZE) today.

The 26-year-old from Trondheim posted jumps of 100 m and 98.5 m on the HS 106 normal hill on Friday evening and scored 248.8 points. After second places in Planica 2017 and in Engelberg 2016, he made it to the top of the podium in the COC for the first time.

Only 0.3 points behind the Norwegian, Rok Justin of Slovenia came in second with jumps of 98.5 m and 99.5 m.
Klemens Muranka of Poland, who won both competitions in Wisla (POL) recently, was among the very best again with 100.5 m and 99.5 m. With 248.0 points he was third, less than a point behind the winner.

Local hero Filip Sakala was fourth and achieved the best result of his career on his home hill in Frenstat. The fifth place went to Poland's Andrzej Stekala, followed by the best of the Austrians, Markus Schiffner, in sixth.

Matthew Soukup of Canada came in seventh today, this is a clear career-best for him in the Continental Cup, the eighth place went to Masamitsu Ito of Japan. 18-year-old Austrian Claudio Moerth showed a convincing performance in his first appearance in the COC and finished ninth. Gregor Deschwanden of Switzerland came in tenth.

Klemens Muranka now took the lead in the overall ranking of the Continental Cup with 278 points, ahead of the two Japanese Keiichi Sato (230 points) and Naoki Nakamura (225 points).

The second competition in Frenstat starts on Saturday at 10 am CET.
