COC-M: Maciej Kot wins in Val di Fiemme
Feb 22, 2020·Ski JumpingMaciej Kot of Poland won the first competition of the Continental Cup in Val di Fiemme (ITA) on Saturday evening and celebrated his first win this season.
The 28-year-old, who is struggling with his shape in the World Cup this winter, posted jumps of 101 m and 104 m on the HS 104 normal hill and won with 281.1 points. With this performance, Maciej Kot, who was already won two World Cups in his career, stood on top of the podium for the third time in the COC.
"It was a quite good competition for me. I like to jump here in Predazzo. This was my best competition this season, so I am really happy. The competitors are strong but I will do my best again tomorrow", said the Pole.
Clemens Aigner of Austria jumped on 102 m and 103 m and took the second place with a total of 275.6 points, a very good result, even if he doesn't really such smaller hills: "I don’t like the normal hill so much, I usually prefer the large hill, but now I am satisfied. Tomorrow I'm hoping for good jumps again, then we‘ll see what will happen."
Germany's Moritz Baer, with 100 m sixth after the first round, showed the best jump in the final round with 104.5 m and came in third overall with 274.5 m points. This was his first Top 3 finish in the Continental Cup this winter. "The jump in the first competition round was ok, not so good as the last one, but ok. I’m very happy about my result. This is the first time I take part in a competition here in Predazzo, I came here in the past but not to compete, only for training", said Moritz Baer.
The fourth place went to Clemens Leitner of Austria, US American Kevin Bickner, who was en route to the podium after the first half of the competition in third behind Kot and Aigner, came in fifth today. Besides third-placed Moritz Baer, Luca Roth, Martin Hamann, and Philipp Raimund secured a great team result of the Germans in sixth, seventh and eighth.
Zak Mogel was the best of the Slovenes in ninth, Austria's Marco Woergoetter completed today's Top 10.
In the overall ranking of the Continental Cup, Clemens Aigner was able to extend his lead. With 791 points he is first, followed by Clemens Leitner (745 points) and Stefan Huber (532 points).
The second competition in Predazzo starts on Sunday at 9 am CET.
