FIS Inspection in Harrachov

The gigantic Ski Flying hill in Harrachov (CZE) has been infamous for many years, many different stories were written there. Just remember the snowballs that fans threw towards Sven Hannawald when he was riding in the chairlift. Most recently Severin Freund (2014) and Sven Hannawald (2002) crowned themselves Ski Flying World Champions on this hill.

Flights of over 210 m are possible on the HS 205 Ski Flying hill in Harrachov, Thomas Morgenstern set the hill record in 2008 with 214.5 m.

Currently, the facility is not ready for jumping, the last Ski Flying event in Harrachov were the World Championships in 2014. Since then the lights have been out on the Certak-hill in Harrachov, about 130 km south-east of the German town of Dresden. An extensive renovation is required.

Various representatives of the FIS visited Harrachov for an official inspection.

During this inspection, lead by FIS Race Director Dr. Walter Hofer, the ambitious project to completely renovate the Ski Flying facility on the Certak was presented by the Czech Ski Association.

Walter Hofer: "This traditional venue is not only one of the most famous Ski Flying hills. The experienced organizing committee and the geographic location are perfect prerequisites for a "Nordic Weekend" in central Europe with possibly all nordic disciplines!"

A proposal will be submitted by the Czech Ski Association at the next FIS Congress in Thailand 2020.
