Hoelzl flies away with the yellow bib
Feb 09, 2020·Ski JumpingAs per last weekend, Austrian Chiara Hoelzl won both competitions of the FIS Ski Jumping Women's World Cup this week-end and leads now with 90 important points in the overall World Cup. The local hero won in front of public and friends ahead of team mate Eva Pinkelnig and young Italian Lara Malsiner.
This week-end in Austria was exceptional in many ways. About 6’000 spectators were registered for the women event, a record so far for the organisators from UVB Hinzenbach. It was also one of the most popular event in FIS Ski Jumping Women’s World Cup with 18 nations participating with 65 women.
Cheered by a home crowd, Chiara Hoelzl offered again back to back wins this weekend. On Sunday, she posted two jumps of 87.5 m, scoring 251 points, ahead of team mate Eva Pinkelnig who had the longest jump in the first round with 88.5 m and 87 m in the second.
A surprising third place came to Lara Malsiner, who posted two jumps at 87 m. "I wasn't expected it as my best place was so far sixth but I am really happy and I am really enjoying any moment of my first-ever podium" said the 19-year-old Italian.
Sara Takanashi could still not claim her 100th podium as she remained fourth.
World Champion Maren Lundby finished 11th in the second round with a jump at 84 m and missed therefore the podium to finish fifth.
The three following positions were secured by Austrian team with Jacqueline Seifriedsberger (sixth), Lisa Eder (seventh) and Daniela Iraschko-Stolz who improved her place in the first round from 14th to seventh in the final one, finishing eventually eighth. Marita Kramer eventually completed a top 11 !
Japanese Nozomi Maruyama finished 9th, and German Katharina Althaus tenth, followed by team mate Juliane Seyfarth.
Additional to Kramer and Seyfarth, a third athlete tied also 224.1 points and the 11th position with Nika Kriznar from Slovenia.
The World Cup continues in Ljubno, (SLO) in two weeks.
After this weekend jumping at home, Chiara Hoelzl definitely leads the overall ranking of the World Cup with 1030 points, 90 points ahead of Maren Lundby. Eva Pinkelnig remains third (859 points).
Austria is the clear leader in the Nations Cup with 3563 points ahead of Japan (1740 ) and Norway (1729).
