Karl Geiger

Karl Geiger won the qualification for the New Year's event in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The 26-year-old, who is one of the top contenders for this season's overall title, won the qualification, which was held in great weather conditions in front of 10 000 fans, ahead of Austria's Philipp Aschenwald and Peter Prevc of Slovenia and Japan's Ryoyu Kobayashi, who both tied for third.

The 68th 4-Hills-Tournament remains exciting, that's obvious after the qualification in Partenkirchen. With his win today, Karl Geiger made sure that top favorite Ryoyu Kobayashi (3rd today) and Stefan Kraft (7th) know, that they have to show a top performance on New Year's day in order to defeat the Oberstdorf-native. Since the beginning of the winter, Karl Geiger has been extremely consistent and with his second place in Oberstdorf, he also gained the necessary self-confidence. "During the flight phase it was already good in Oberstdorf, I have a good feeling at the moment. This was a pretty good jump and I'm slowly getting there", Geiger said modestly.

Right now Karl Geiger is second in the 4-Hills overall ranking, 9.2 points behind the leader, Ryoyu Kobayashi.
4-Hills and overall World Cup leader Kobayashi posted yet another strong jump today and scored only 1.8 points less than Geiger.

Markus Eisenbichler is slowly but surely getting in his best shape after he was struggling earlier this season. The Bavarian finished fifth in today's qualification.
Japan's Yukiya Sato and Daiki Ito (sixth and seventh today) also have a good chance to finish strong in the New Year's competition. Dawid Kubacki, third in Oberstdorf, came in tenth and can definitely remain among the best in the overall ranking of the 68th 4-Hills-Tournament also after the competition in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

The second competition of the 68th 4-Hills-Tournament  starts on Wednesday at 2 pm CET in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
