Markus Eisenbichler is currently sidelined due to a hand injury and will, therefore, miss the World Cup in Val di Fiemme this weekend.

The German slipped on Tuesday in Ruhpolding and sustained an injury of his right wrist. "I slipped on ice in the parking lot and wanted to break the fall with my right hand. That's when I got injured", said the 28-year-old.

The first medical checks showed that the World Champion suffered a capsular and ligament injury. Right now it's not clear yet, for how long Markus Eisenbichler will be ruled out. "Markus will undergo further checks in the upcoming days. Then we will see whether surgery will be necessary", explains team doctor Mark Dorfmueller.

Of course, Eisenbichler, who presented himself in better shape again during the 4-Hills-Tournament after a difficult start of the season, hopes that he'll be able to return to the hill soon: "That didn't work out too well. But I expect that I'll be able to jump again soon."

Due to the bad luck of Markus Eisenbichler, Martin Hamann will now get the chance to compete in the World Cup this weekend. He was named to the team of head coach Stefan Horngacher alongside Karl Geiger, Stephan Leyhe, Constantin Schmid, Pius Paschke, and Luca Roth.
