Opening in Trondheim: Lundby and Opseth ahead again

Maren Lundby

Maren Lundby is close to winning the Raw Air 2020. The Olympic champion was the best in today's opening round in Trondheim and is clearly on her way to the overall win. Lundby scored 120.3 points, 0.4 points more than her teammate Silje Opseth and two points more than Slovenia's Nika Kriznar in third.

In good conditions, Lundby took the win today and still has room for improvement. "This was not a good jump, but of course I can be satisfied with the win", the 26-year-old summed up the day.

After her second place yesterday, Silje Opseth once again presented herself in strong shape today. Opseth is definitely the discovery of the last couple of days.

Slovenia's Nika Kriznar recovered well from her crash on Monday in Lillehammer. Despite injuries of the elbow, shoulder, and hip, she finished third. Kriznar's teammate Ema Klinec was fourth, Sara Takanashi came in fifth.

So it seems as if last year's winner Maren Lundby will defend her title at the Raw Air 2020. Lundby took a clear overall win in the first women's Raw Air last winter, now she has a lead of 44.4 points over Silje Opseth before the final competition in Trondheim. Austria's Eva Pinkelnig is third, but she is already 114.1 points behind Lundby.

Best German in the Raw Air overall ranking is Katharina Althaus in fourth. A Norwegian overall win in the Raw Air 2020 is almost certain.

The final women's Raw Air competition in Trondheim starts on Thursday at 8 pm CET.
