Peter Prevc wins in Lillehammer
Mar 09, 2020·Ski JumpingSlovenia's Peter Prevc won the Ski Jumping World Cup in Lillehammer (NOR) on Monday evening. The 2015/16 overall World Cup winner came in just ahead of the two Germans Markus Eisenbichler and Stephan Leyhe.
Peter Prevc hasn't claimed a World Cup win since Sapporo 2017, so the oldest of the three Prevc brothers was obviously extremely satisfied with today's result. "Of course, I'm very satisfied and happy about this win. My jumps were very good today and I hope that I can perform on a similar level again tomorrow", explained the winner, for whom this was the 23rd World Cup win, the first since February 2017.
The German team also had a good reason to celebrate today as Markus Eisenbichler and Stephan Leyhe finished second and third. "It was a pretty good day for me. I had a really good start here already in training. The first jump in the competition was amazing, the second one was then a bit too aggressive for the conditions. I didn't know how the conditions would be, but I wanted to attack. I tried and I came in second. I'm very happy about the result. It's been a bad season, so it's great to be on the podium", said Eisenbichler.
Stephan Leyhe said: "It was a solid start for me in training. In the first round, I was a bit late at the take-off, but it was better in the second round. Now I'm very satisfied with the third place. Of course, it's great to be among the best in the overall ranking, but actually I'm not focused on the Raw Air overall right now." Leyhe is currently third and the best German in the Raw Air Overall ranking.
With his fourth place today, Marius Lindvik now took the lead in the overall Raw Air ranking, ahead of Stefan Kraft of Austria (eighth today) and Stephan Leyhe.
Robert Johansson and Robin Pedersen tied for fifth and completed yet another strong result of the Norwegian team after their win in Saturday's team competition in Oslo.
Today's competition was the replacement for the canceled competition from Oslo. The jumps six, seven and eight of the Raw Air will follow tomorrow with the qualification (3:45 pm CET) and the second competition in Lillehammer (5 pm CET).
