Severin Freund will not be able to achieve his goal of making a comeback at the 4-Hills-Tournament. The highlight, that already starts on the upcoming weekend in Oberstdorf will take place without the local hero this season.

"Severin will definitely not be competing there. He is currently training and has his back problems under control, but he still needs some more time. It's not possible to predict when he will be back. The plan is for him to return to the hill in January. Then we'll see", head coach Stefan Horngacher explained in an interview with German TV during the World Cup weekend in Engelberg.

Originally, Severin Freund, who was struggling with new setbacks after his two ACL tears, wanted to return to the World Cup maybe even before Christmas. After the goal 4-Hills-Tournament is now without reach for him, the focus of the former overall World Cup winner is now even more on the Ski Flying World Championships in Planica at the end of the season. "If I make the team for the Ski Flying World Championships, then I have achieved a lot", the 31-year-old said in an Interview late October.

While Severin Freund still has to wait for his first World Cup competition since January 1st, 2019, the preparations for the 4-Hills opener in Oberstdorf are in full swing.
"After talking to the head of the organizing committee in Oberstdorf, Florian Stern, I can now say that the opening event of the 4-Hills-Tournament can be considered secure at this point in time when it comes to the snow situation. Some measures still have to be taken in order to get the hill ready from jumping until December 28th, but we are convinced that we will get it done", explained Rudi Tusch of the German Ski Association (DSV).
